Hickory woodsmoke on the nose and palate from generous oak aging. Some blackcurrant and cassis on the palate. This would benefit both from cellar aging and decanting 2 hours. Pair with a rare steak.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: pork tenderloin, hodge-podge, grilled burgers, Margherita pizza.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

The Burgess Napa Cab is a deeply coloured, nearly black, and intensely aromatic and flavourful full bodied wine. The nose shows black currant, stewed plums, anise, black berry, and vanilla. Full bodied, luscious with fine integrated tannins, layers and layers of rich dark fruit, black berry compote, stewed plums, mocha, and dark chocolate. What a gorgeous Napa Cabernet! Enjoy with pork tenderloin with port reduction or treat yourself to some fine Belizean cacao that would complement this wine beautifully. Enjoy 2015-2025+. Tasted November 2015. 94 points. Wineboy rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A classic California CS with less oak than other people tasting this wine reported. Some significant tannins from the smaller berries Howell Mountain vineyards experience.
This robust Californian red wine is made from grapes grown in the winery's estate Howell Mountain vineyard that boosts excellent drainage for the vines. Very firm tannic grip. Burgess Cellars was founded in 1972 on the western slopes of Howell Mountain in the heart of Napa Valley. - Community Wine Reviews
