Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Deep ruby, dark fruits, an extremely complex wine with abundant dark berries, dried fruit, and spice. Incredible now and will only improve with age, over the next 10 years. 92 points. Tasted March 2015. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Brooding and dark are excellent descriptors of this full-bodied Spanish red. Inky legs with lots of extraction. Aromas and flavours of dark cherry, cassis, dried herbs, earthy, leather, wet wool, warm baking spices, alcohol. Persistent tannins and medium+ acidity. Decanting is a must or time in the cellar to tame it. Needs grilled or charred red meats, roasted rack of lamb encrusted in herbs de provence. Collector gift.

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Ripe cherry, red plums beckon on the nose. The palate shows red cherries, leather, oak, vanilla and black olives. Full-bodied and dry with soft tannins and a long ripe red fruit finish. This is a wine made for savoury foods.
This Spanish red wine is produced by Spain's most iconic winery Vega Sicilia. The 2011 vintage of Alion is 100% Tempranillo grapes grown in vineyards with vines 25 to 30 years of age. The grapes are picked in the second half of September, then the wine is aged for 16 months in new French oak barrels from the Nevers forest, whereas Vega Sicilia doesn't use French oak. Winemaker Javier Ausas demonstrates superb craftsmanship. - Community Wine Reviews
