This complex, subtle and full-bodied cabernet sauvignon has great elegance and a long finish. Dark fruit and smoke notes on this red wine, with lots of layers and great cellar potential. Superb craftsmanship. Highly recommended. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for this benchmark wine are grown in one of Napa Valley's greatest vineyards. The wine is aged for about 18 months in custom-toasted new French oak barrels. Pair with rare filet mignon. The 2012 vintage of this Californian Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve is made from grapes grown in only two winery estate vineyards, the Steinhauer Vineyard on Howell Mountain (about 70%) and St. Helena Home Vineyard (about 30%). The wine has a high pH of 3.9 as the grapes were able to ripen fully, yet it remains balanced with great structure. This Cabernet was matured for 17 months in new French oak barrels, then another 12 months in the bottle before being released from the winery. Great cellar wine. Winemaker Laurie Hook's superb craftsmanship is evident.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: hearty meat dishes, hard cheese, roast chicken.
