Le Clos Jordanne Le Clos Jordanne Vineyard Pinot Noir 2011, Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: I'm reluctant to say that this is not my favourite pinot noir from Le Clos Jordanne, even though it is still attractive. The grapes for this wine grow in a warmer part of the vineyard, and so it has a richer, fleshier style as compared to other leaner, more acidic pinots. Nonetheless, lovely notes of ripe cherry and some judicious oak. Pinot Noir food pairings: coq au vin, beef bourguignon, grilled salmon, cassoulet, roasted and braised lamb. The Bean Coffee Mooiplaas Wines Pinotage 2012, Western Cape, Stellenbosch W.O., South Africa: Totally coffee-espresso on the nose and palate of this pinotage. Weirdly wonderful: end your day with the alcoholic version of your morning coffee. Full-bodied and smooth red wine with some black fruit flavours as well. The coffee-style pinotage has become popular among South African winemakers. The aromas and flavours are derived from toasting the French oak barrels in which the wine is matured. The Black Chook Woop Woop Wines Syrah Shiraz 2012, South Australia, Australia: Surprisingly excellent for the price, wow. This full-bodied red wine is a blend of mostly Shiraz and a splash of Viognier from McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek. Aromas of blackberry jam lusciousness with some mint. Decoy Pinot Noir 2012, Sonoma County, California, United States: The much-respected Californian winery Duckhorn Vineyards produces this second label Pinot Noir that that is very good quality for the money. The Decoy range of wines, now in their 20th year, offers fleshy cherry-berry aromas right out of the glass -- it pulls you in. Full-bodied, round and rollicking with good natured ripe fruit, spices and cedarwood smoke. Mouth-watering yet it finishes long and elegant. A good decoy indeed. Highly recommended.
