Rutherglen Estates Petit Sirah 2008, Victoria, Australia: A robust, big bruiser of a wine with aromas of black fruit and smoke. Supple on the palate with more robust flavours coming through. Cries out for a juicy steak! This wine is matured for about a year in oak barrels, imparting an attractive vanilla spice on the finish. A previous vintage of this wine won the Gold medal at the Rutherglen Wine Show. Alamos The Wines Of Catena Torrontés 2012, Salta, Argentina: Pretty and floral with very pleasant lime blossom aromas. Medium-bodied and ultra food-friendly. Such an aromatic and characterful wine. It reminds me of some of my favourite supporting actors, which don't always have their name at the top of the marquee, but nonetheless put in a memorable performance. Torrontés is the signature white wine of Argentina. This one especially is a terrific one to try if you haven't done so yet. Great value.
