Hardys Butcher's Gold Shiraz 2010, South Australia, Australia: Full-bodied, juicy and smooth with attractive aromas of toasty oak, black plum, blackberries and espresso. Lots of layered flavour here. Great party wine. Shiraz food pairings: pan-fried veal cutlets with oven-roasted beetroot, kipfler potatoes, and whole shallots with mushroom and garlic reduction.. Vineland Estates Winery Pinot Meunier 2011, V.Q.A., Niagara Escarpment, Ontario, Canada: A peppery, spicy, medium-bodied red with lovely aromas of damson plum and red currant. Wonderfully different. Supple and smooth with some dried herbs on the finish. Get out of your merlot rut with this wine. Colio Estate Wines CEV Small Lot Syrah 2010, V.Q.A., Lake Erie North Shore, Pelee Island, Ontario, Canada: Superb! Medium-bodied yet packed with flavour. Pepper and plush black plum aromas on the nose. Opens up with luscious mouth-filling flavours on the palate. Balanced and delicious. Tawse Sketches of Niagara Rosé 2014, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: Light, soft, fragrant cool-climate Ontario rose that's both refreshing and invigorating. Aromas of delicate field strawberries, no big acidity here. Easy, light sipper. Lovely balance from one of Niagara's best producers. A terrific aperitif in this Niagara rose with small berry notes. Bone-dry and vibrant. A nice tang on the finish. Pair with fresh trout. Rosé food pairings: grilled salmon steaks, grilled peppers. Cave Spring Blanc de Blancs Brut, Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: A remarkable Niagara sparkling wine made from 100% Chardonnay grapes. Toasty beautiful with green apple freshness and layers of refreshment, like ocean spray on a warm summer's day. The vines are planted in limestone clay soils on the benchlands of the Niagara Escarpment. The wine is aged sur lie in the bottle for a minimum of 30 months prior to disgorging. Terrific minerality and persistent mousse. Wow.
