It is a top area for grapes to become extremely ripe, resulting in flavourful, medium-sweetness wines such as this little beauty. An excellent choice. Another exotic little number with spices, orange peel and lovely, lovely white peach. Different and so very pretty. Sister's Run Shiraz 2009, Calvary Hill, Barossa Valley, South Australia, Australia: Winemaker Elena Brooks’ ready for anything approach to her work inspired the Sister’s Run label. On at least one occasion, while changing from high heels to work boots and while wearing one of each, ran into the winery to deal with a crisis. This wine is full bodied with concentrated dark fruits and spice, fun, but serious enough for either a formal or informal barbecue. A perky, full-bodied red that delivers lots of pleasure and no offense. Black plums berries roll across your mouth: no stops or starts, all liquid pleasure. Perfect for the barbecue. Château Saint Maurice Les Grès Laudun Christophe Valat, Vign. 2009, A.C., Côtes Du Rhône-Villages, France: Laudun’s best vineyards tend to be north-facing and grown on sandy clay. Interesting aromas include pomegranate and black licorice, plus the usual scents of plum, raspberry and pepper-spice. Dry, and due to zippy acidity with a very ripe core, is not at all jammy. A value-priced wine for the cellar: 3-5+ years. To enjoy now, decant for 2+ hours and serve. Juicy, delicious and full-bodied with alluring aromas of black cherry, cedar box, violets and smoke. Zenato Superiore Valpolicella 2008, D.O.C., Veneto, Italy: Zenato is famous (and a Vintages customer favourite) for producing top-notch wines in the Veneto classic styles. With its lower yields and stricter controls, this fine Valpolicella Superiore, is another in a long line of successes. Brimming with expressive aromas of dark fruit and chocolate, it’s a dry, supple and full-flavoured wine which reveals more dark fruit, red field berries and some sour cherry on the palate. It is medium bodied, more textured and fuller than any Valpols, and sporting a lovely medium-long finish. Mocha-rich nose with dark cherries and fleshy plums. Lovely full-bodied and smooth.
