Inniskillin Niagara Estate Chardonnay Icewine 2007, V.Q.A. Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, Canada: Oh my goodness this is fantastic! How to make your tastebuds happy. Round and generous with lusciously ripe Asian pear, gala apples and honey melon. Aged in Canadian oak. Lovely. Quails' Gate Estate Winery Merlot 2008, V.Q.A., Okanagan Valley, Bc, Canada: A serious, deep, rich Merlot with seemingly endless layers of plush black plums and berries. Fine tannins give a superbly smooth mouth-feel. More than 90% of the grapes come from Quails' Gate Boucherie Mountain vineyards. Trapiche Syrah 2010, Argentina, Argentina: Vintages Wine Panel: Deep ruby in color, the nose reveals aromas of blackberry, licorice and spices. Full-bodied, soft and spicy, the finish shows some tannic edge. My note: Alluring notes of black raspberries and cherries underlaid with licorice, dark spices and a kick of pepper. Soft polished tannins give this wine a velvet-smooth mouth-feel. Excellent value for this full-bodied, dark-fruited number! Smooth and tasty. Chateau De Gourgazaud 2009, Languedoc, Roussilon, France: Stunning for this price point! Reminds me of classic Bordeaux: woodsmoke, cassis and leather with some black pepper on the nose. Painted Rock Estate Winery Ltd. Red Icon Cabernet Blend 2008, V.Q.A., Okanagan Valley, Bc, Canada: A gorgeously rich nose of fleshy dark fruit, violets and cedar smoke. Elegant with lifted mid-palate flavours, then a clean, long finish that leaves you wanting more. Full-bodied, but not heavy. This wine was aged for 18 months in new French oak. Township 7 Vineyards & Winery Okanagan Oliver & Cawston Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, V.Q.A., Okanagan Valley, Bc, Canada: Savoury, meaty and full-bodied with a smooth, seductive texture. Aromas of black cherry, bergamot herbs and some lovely leather notes on the finish. This is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) with 15% Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: grilled filet mignon with portobello mushrooms or rosemary encrusted lamb. Tawse Winery Inc. Quarry Road Chardonnay 2009, V.Q.A. Vinemount Ridge, Ontario, Canada: A gorgeous profusion of hazelnut and green apple brightness on the nose. This is followed by rich, voluptuous layers of tropical fruit and butterscotch goodness.
