Video: 4 Canadian wine lovers

Video: 6 Canadian winemakers

Dear Bacchus, May 10, 2013

Since we launched The Great Canadian Wine Match last week, the grassroots support for our own wine and food across the country has been mind-blowing.

Wine lovers from coast to coast are nominating and voting for their favourite wines to pair in six food categories. Social media is ablaze with calls to rally behind the wines they've named.

You don't have to be an expert to nominate a wine, and you don't have to nominate one to vote for the wines you like. This is a people's choice, "bottoms up" competition ... get in the game with just a few clicks.

The regional rivalry is fun, but it's not all about winning ... every Canadian wine named is celebrated on Canada's largest wine site and each can claim to be "The Best Canadian Wine for Cheese Nominee" ... or chicken, seafood, beef, pizza or dessert.

The Canadian Press, CBC and CanTech Magazine have already reported on the launch, with more media coverage to come after the  showdown in June, just in time for Canada Day.

Meanwhile, there are terrific Canadian wines coming out in tomorrow's wine picks.

You'll also find 8 of my reviews published in the Vintages Catalogue.

Have a great weekend!
Natalie

Wine Tip of the Week
Contributor Valerie Stride (pictured left) is the positive force behind the wine blog The Demystified Vine. This Vancouver native and WSET graduate is especially passionate about BC wines, though she embraces the entire wine world with her enthusiasm.

Anne Sperling, below, is truly an all-Canadian winemaker, and one of our best! She is the winemaker at Southbrook Vineyards in Ontario, her family also owns Sperling Vineyards in BC, and along with her husband Peter Gamble, she has been involved in several winery projects in NS. In the video chat below, she talks about biodynamic winemaking.
