White Wine

Peter Lehmann Wines Layers White Semillon Muscat 2009, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia: This wine is a blend of semillon (39%), muscat (23%), gewurztraminer (16%) and pinot gris. Such a pretty wine! Aromas of field flowers, peach and pear and honeysuckle a fresh spring day. Terrific aperitif. Pair with: seafood, salads. Drink: 2010-2013. 167171 11.50% D 750 mL  $17.95 Score: 90/100. October 2, 2010 Favourite White Wine. Full Review

Robert Oatley Vineyards Pemberton Sauvignon Blanc 2009, Pemberton, Australia: Crisp and clean with refreshing aromas of white melon, grapefruit and lime zest. Not herbal or grassy. Good acidity makes it mouth-watering: this wine cries out for food! Pair with: seared scallops, grilled prawns, pasta with lighter sauces, pizza, Indian dishes. Drink: 2010-2013. 186106 12.20% D 750 mL  $17.95 Score: 88/100. September 18, 2010 Full Review

Stoney Ridge Estate Winery Dim Vineyard Riesling 2008, V.Q.A., Creek Shores, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, Canada: Vintages Wine Panel: This wine won a Gold Medal at the 2009 All Canadian Wine Championships. This pretty wine features aromas of apricot, peach and a hint of honey. Medium dry with good fruit, the wine is balanced by a crisp acidity. Enjoy this long-finishing wine with mildly spiced calamari dishes. My note: A crisp, refreshing Riesling with attractive notes of lime and lemongrass. Good aperitif. Excellent value. 161208 12.50% MD 750 mL  $14.00 Score: 87/100. January 9, 2010 Full Review

Le Clos Jordanne Le Clos Jordanne Vineyard Chardonnay 2007, V.Q.A., Niagara Peninsula, Twenty Mile Bench, Ontario, Canada: Voluptuous, mouth-filling aromas of happiness! Full-bodied and richly textured. Hazelnut, green apple, peach, yes, of course, but think about how you feel when you drink this wine. Beyond words, isn’t it? 33910 14% XD 750 mL  $40.00 Score: 93/100. February 20, 2010 Favourite White Wine. Full Review

Red Wine

Santa Julia Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, Mendoza, Argentina: This organic wine contains just 14 mg/L of free sulfur. Mas Des Bressades Cuvée Tradition Syrah Grenache 2008, A.C., Costières de Nîmes, Rhône, France: Vintages Wine Panel: A blend of 55% Syrah and 45% Grenache, this Nîmes wine is filled with blackberry, soft spice, vanilla bean and underbrush aromas and flavours. Dry and appealing with fine fruit surrounded by gentle tannins and a hint of refreshing acidity. A great value from an up-and-coming region. My note: A tasty, full-bodied red with generous notes of black raspberries and blackberries. Supple with a satisfyingly long finish. Immeniently gulpable. 143099 14.10% XD 750 mL  $14.95 Score: 87/100. February 20, 2010 Full Review

Sparkling Wine

Henry of Pelham Estate Winery Cuvee Catharine Brut Sparkling Wine, Niagara, Ontario, Canada: One of Ontario's (and Canada's) benchmark bubblies. Aromas of ripe green apples, lime, and white peach all wrapped in a toasty blanket. Medium-bodied with great persistence of flavour. Refreshing, zesty and ultimately celebratory! Don't just toast weddings, anniversaries and birthdays, raise a glass to life and make it a celebration with this wine tonight. In my Drinks Matcher tool, I pair this bubbly with many dishes. Pair with: oysters, mussels, caviar, smoked salmon, seafood, salads, potato chips. Drink: 2009-2012. 616441 12% D 750 mL  $29.95 Score: 90/100. December 6, 2008 Full Review
