Mike scored this wine: 92/100

If ever there was a "summer wine"! The wine is a pale green straw colour in the glass. The aromatics are lifted and pronounced offering loads of stone fruit such as fresh peaches, underripe pineapple and crisp green apple. This is a perfect balance between fresh and tropical on the palate. It enters softly, presenting wonderful tropical fruit notes framed with a bright, fresh and perfectly balanced acidity with just a hint of sweetness. Drier than off dry but not bone dry there is also an inkling of effervescence. Served super chilled and the acidity and freshness will be highlighted. At closer to room temperature the hint of residual sugar becomes more apparent. This is dangerously easy to drink but will also make for some incredible food pairing matches. Pair with a pan seared halibut or your favourite white fish and a fruit salsa, will do wonders with a Quinoa salad with a citrus vinaigrette and even better with ceviche or high grade sushi!

I recently enjoyed hosting an evening of Chateauneuf du Pape. We tasted a flight of various vintages of some of the most recognizable wines from the region. The last wine we tasted was a 2007 Solitude La Secrete. This was a mindblower! Stunning! 2007 was an exceptional vintage in the region and this was a prime example. It shows a deep concentration and dark berry colour in the glass. Almost opaque. The nose is ripe and slightly dusty. The palate however is a perfectly smooth, luscious and velvety texture. There is exceptional balance in fruit concentration, integrated tannic structure and a fresh acidity. Tasting wonderfuly obviously and will reward the patient cellar hand with another ten years at least. If you come across an 07' do not pass up the opportunity!
