If you drink wine like I do... at least a glass a night before or with dinner... then this wine is worth trying. I don't know about you, but paying even as little as $10 to $20 for a 750ml bottle of wine a couple times a week adds up. This wine, at $12.50 for a 1.5L bottle, is an excellent value for your money. Poo-poo me if you must but I find this to be a well-rounded easy drinking wine that is perfectly suited to being my go to wine for everyday enjoyment. Besides it allows me to scrimp those now non-existant pennies so that every now and then I can splurge on something that does cost a bit more. This wine comes to us from Italy - the D'Abruzzo region - and is made from the Montepulciano grape variety. It's flavoured with black fruits a la blackberry and cherry, has very mild tannins and goes with a variety of foods. If you haven't already given this wine a try (or if you have given it a pass before because of it's price - maybe you thought that something that inexpensive couldn't possibly be good)- Think again and try it now.

A note of spice hits the nose when you first breathe in this wine and dark fruits carry through on the tongue when you taste it. It was a nice wine but I would advise that you decant it or let it breathe for maybe 20 minutes or so before you drink it. The tannins were mild but nonetheless there and unless you like that dry feel in your mouth you may prefer to let it breathe a little once it has been opened. That or you could let it sit a little longer in your wine fridge or cellar - those tannins will certainly allow it to age a little while longer. It was a pleasant surprise for the price point - and the label was cheerful enough to brighten even the darkest day! (I have to say that is why I chose it - that and I love to explore Ontario's wines!) I would suggest it be paired with BBQ steak, pizza or hearty cheeses - it can stand up to foods with bolder flavours. Enjoy!
