Maud reviewed this wine:

Carinena, the largest and oldest of the Aragonese D.O.s, is one of Spain's earliest areas to be demarcated in 1932. It has given its name to the grape of the same name, called the Mazuelo elsewhere in northern Spain and the Carignan in France. The last decade has seen fast development thanks to fusions between small bodegas and cooperatives and the reshaping of wines to modern tastes. The wines have become bigger and bolder and the reds have the characteristic style of Garnacha wines made in hot climates and the 5% Carinena grapes added to these for long ageing help add staying power. Beso de Vino Seleccion is a blend of 85% Syrah and 15% Garnacha aged for 3 months in French oak. Black cherry and blueberry aromas lead to a dense, plush, savoury wine which finishes with no hard edges. It is shockingly good for the money.

Maud reviewed this wine:

Aged for a whopping 10 years, this excellent wine embodies everything that the connoisseur of traditional, classic Spanish wines admires. A dark ruby red colour fading to brick red at the edges. The nose has spicy notes of leather and vanilla. Similar complexity on the palate with intense flavours of fruit and licorice leading to a long velvety finish. Cellar for up to 8 years.

With a fresh aromatic nose, this is a crisp, dry wine with plenty of zesty gooseberry and green apple flavours.

2007 Vintage Report Spring and summer conditions saw exemplary Okanagan weather with an excellent start to the season for budburst and flowering. Careful vineyard management with intensive pruning and thinning for smaller crops yielded high quality grape clusters. Harvest began September 6th and lasted through November 1st, for the table wines. The onset of cool fall evenings and warm days produced whites with exceptional crisp freshness and reds with well balanced tannin and sugar maturation. Our 2007 Shiraz is balanced and rich in texture, with a lively blast of blackberry and dark cherry. The wine is highlighted with white pepper notes and a lingering finish. Solid, yet somewhat rustic style for the barbecue. This Shiraz will complement grilled meats perfectly. Try pairing with barbequed beef ribs, lamb chops and honey glazed grilled vegetables.

The bouquet is layered with abundant aroma's of plum pudding, cigar box, blackberries & chocolate. It has an excellent length of flavour, velvety tannins and hints of smoky oak. 71% Shiraz and 29% Cabernet Sauvignon are separately fermented & matured in a combination of new French & American oak before final blending.

Memorable Wine

A bottle of Zinfandel we shared on our 10th anniversary 28 years ago at Chateau Lake Louise. The wine was not great but I remember that moment clearly!
