Best Wines with Pizza

Wine lovers from coast to coast voted for these three Canadian wines to pair with pizza. From the 42 wines nominated, these three wines became finalists, and then, triumphed as top 3 wines. Try one with these pizza recipes!

Congratulations to the winners! My personal thanks to all who voted in this competition: a true, grassroots celebration of the amazing wines we make in Canada. Please let me know if you have suggestions on how to make next year’s competition even better. Come back for in the fall for a pairing match with international wines under $25!
Norman Hardie County Unfiltered Pinot Noir
Prince Edward County, Ontario
Joe Norman Hardie County Unfiltered Pinot Noir

The nose showcases sour red cherry with hints of raspberry, cherry, rhubarb and cranberry. The palate is full of ripe red berry fruit with a hint of spice and a perfect balance of acidity and tannins. Norm makes incredible pizza in a wood-fired oven on site, using vegetables grown alongside his grape vines!

Nicole Smoke & Gamble Reserve Cabernet Merlot 2010

The soft tannins and supple weight of this wine lends itself to be very versatile when matching with food. Steak, cambozola and fresh marinara topped pizza paired with multiple glasses of Smoke & Gamble Reserve Cabernet Merlot is a great way to start off any weekend!

Laughing Stock Vineyards Syrah 2010

Matt Steeves, Laughing Stock Vineyards Syrah 2010

Beautiful ripe red berries, vanilla, kirsch, raspberry syrup, blueberry pie, grandma's baking spices, and vanilla! Drinking incredibly now and will only improve with age as the fruit evolves into something even more complex. Enjoy with your favourite tomato-based pizza or be fancy and try a pear and gorgonzola pizza.
