|Congratulations to the winners! My personal thanks to all who voted in this competition: a true, grassroots celebration of the amazing wines we make in Canada. Please let me know if you have suggestions on how to make next year’s competition even better. Come back for in the fall for a pairing match with international wines under $25!|

A Sauternes wine with blue cheese is a match made in heaven! Canada's Quails' Gate Winery is making a truly world-class Sauternes-style sweet wine that does in fact pair perfectly with your favourite blue cheese, or dishes with blue cheese in them, like Stilton Cheesecake - my favourite!

Harwood Estate's Marquesa is a port-styled fortified wine made from the Marquette grape. It has aromas of raisins, cassis, spiced honey and black cherries with a velvety smooth finish. This wine was just incredible with some local 9-year-old cheddar. It would also go well with other aged or blue cheeses.
I discovered the Thirty Bench Wine Makers 2011 Riesling while touring the winery. It pairs quite well with cheeses as its acidity cuts through the lipid/protein and cleans the palate, while the intense fruit and residual sugar complements the cheese’s saltiness and the minerality adds another taste dimension.
