Canada’s best wine for barbecue? Tipplers can vote on favourites

By: The Canadian Press

OTTAWA – Many Canadians opt for beer or gin when it comes to pairing beverages with grilled food. But wine lovers can now weigh in with their picks in an online poll.

In The Great Canadian Wine Match: BBQ Edition, launching Friday, wine lovers can nominate and vote for their favourite Canadian wines to pair with grilled chicken, beef, seafood, pork, vegetables and dessert.

Unlike traditional competitions judged by experts, wine lovers themselves choose their favourite pairings on www.nataliemaclean.com/wine-canada-bbq-pairing via real-time, online voting until June 20. The Twitter hashtag is #GCWM.

Natalie MacLean, editor of wine review site www.nataliemaclean.com, is moderating the competition, including video chats using Google + Hangouts.

Winners will be announced June 27, giving Canadians suggestions for the country’s best wines to crack open at their Canada Day barbecues as well as gatherings during the summer. Those who nominate wines will be eligible to win a $3,000 Weber gas grill plus other prizes.
