Best Value Wines at the LCBO for November

 

There are so many well-priced wines among the regular list stock at the LCBO as well as from Ontario wineries themselves. Here are just a few of my favourites this month:

2007 Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery Gewurtztraminer Non-Estate, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada: A delightful and spicy white with classic aromas of lychee, rose petal and Asian pear.  2911400004  12%  MD  750 mL  $22.00  Score: 88/100.

2007 Creekside Estate Winery Butler’s Grant Riesling, V.Q.A., Jordan Station, Ontario, Canada: Bursting with lovely apricot and peach notes,fragrant and pretty with a starfruit-infused finish. Makes a terrific aperitif as well as a companion to many dishes. Pair with: garlic shrimp on the barbeque, or butternut squash soup with lime and ginger.. Drink: 2007-2010.  80267  11.50%  MD  750 mL  $15.95  Score: 89/100.

2008 Inniskillin Wines Pinot Gris, Winemaker’s Series Vqa Select Vineyards, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada: Natalie has not yet reviewed this wine. It’s listed here for your convenience so that you can find it easily in your local liquor store. Pair with: light textured fish, light delicate meats and cheeses; suishi; cream mushroom risotto.. Drink: 2009-2013.  981415  12%  D  750 mL  $19.95.

2008 Robertson Winery Sauvignon Blanc, Robertson Wine of Origin, South Africa: Fantastic value, quality and taste for the money! One of the most consistently good producers from South Africa. Terrific note of lime zest and chives, not too herbal. Mouth-watering and tasty. Pair with: Enjoy with seafood, salmon, roast chicken and pork. This wine can stand up to a bit of heat as well.. Drink: 2009-2010.  129684  12.50%  D  750 mL  $10.75  Score: 87/100.

 

Red Wine

2008 Featherstone Winery & Vineyard Cabernet Franc Featherstone, Niagara Escarpment, Canada: Natalie has not yet reviewed this wine. It’s listed here for your convenience so that you can find it easily in your local liquor store. Drink: 2010-2012.  016  12.50%  D  750 mL  $16.95.

2007 Ravine Vineyard Estate Winery Reserve Merlot Ravine Estate Vineyard, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada: A deep rich red from a fabulous vintage! Notes of black plum, blackberry and kirsch. Supple layers of flavour. Wonderful!  2911400013  12.20%  D  750 mL  $55.00  Score: 90/100.

2006 Santa Digna Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, Chile: A well-structured, elegant and balanced Cabernet. Supple and full-bodied. Classic notes of cassis and blackberries. Lovely anise and leather on the finish. Pair with: Ideal with smoked cold cuts and sausages, poultry game, grilled and meat dishes. Serve at 18º C.. Drink: 2009-2013.  177451  14%  D  750 mL  $14.95  Score: 89/100.

2004 Altaïr Sideral, Cachapoal, Chile: Gorgeous long layers of blackcurrant and blackberry flavor: fleshy, full-bodied goodness. A saucy slap of licorice on the finish.
