Best Sauternes Wine

Sauternes is the name of a region in the Graves district of southern Bordeaux, France as well as the namesake of the dessert wine made there.

The wine is made by blending semillon, sauvignon blanc and muscadelle grapes, all affected by “noble rot” (botrytis cinerea) that concentrates their sweetness. Sauternes is a smooth, creamy wine with flavors of apricot, peach, pineapple and vanilla.

It can be paired with cheeses, desserts, egg dishes and nuts. The classic pairing is with foie gras.

My reviews of these best value Sauternes wines are updated weekly. These Sauternes wines offer great taste at a good price. You'll find food pairings for Sauternes in my wine matcher. This is just a sampling of my reviews, but you can get all of them when you join my wine community.

Chateau De Fargues 2007
Sauternes, Bordeaux, France
Gorgeous elixir of apricot preserves yet saved from being cloying by a lovely seam of acidity. Aromas of fresh, fleshy quince rolled gently in brown sugar: what a delightful dessert wine that seems to get better every year! Gorgeously seductive aromas and flavour of honey, pear preserves, quince jelly and apricot blossom. Luscious, rich and round with a mouth-filling texture and a hedonistic length that keeps on giving. Beautiful cinnamon sprinkled apple pie cooling on a country cottage window on the finish. There's a long, lingering lemon meringue finish. Lovely! Alcohol: 13%  Sweetness: Sweet  375 ml  Drink: 2012‐2015  Price: $65.75 Score: 97/100
