The Claystone Terrace is consistently my favourite Pinot Noir from Le Clos Jordanne, year after year. Its exuberant energy and power come from a complex weave of nuances: truffles, black cherry, violets, cedar box and dark spices. Brooding and temperamental: love it! Superb craftsmanship. Finishes with spice, cedar and vanilla. Try it with game meats.

Pinot Noir food pairings: veal, roast chicken.

Reviews and Ratings

Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Garnet colour. Declared 13% abv. A great Pinot for pairing with festive turkey dinner, roast chicken or cedar plank BBQ salmon. This wine is well balanced, integrated and offers a slightly tart, complex, with a mouthwatering level of high acidity designed to accompany your favourite food or to enjoy on its own. Black currant, cherry, fresh thyme, and a hint of cigar box with elegant minerality. A great expression of typicity for Niagara twenty mile bench VQA cool-climate Pinot Noir. Enjoy 2016 - 2020. @jonsteeves rated 90/100, tasted March 2016.
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Le Clos Jordanne Claystone Terrace Pinot Noir is a well-crafted scrumptious wine from a boutique label on the Twenty Mile Bench sub-appellation of the Niagara Peninsula; a terroir with unique mineral rich clay soils and a cool continental climate moderated by Lake Ontario. This wine shows pronounced cherry, mineral and baking spice notes on the nose, while the palate presents flavours of red cherry, cranberry, dark chocolate and dried savory herbs. This wine is medium bodied with high acidity, grippy (but ripe) tannins and a longer mouthwatering finish. You can drink this wine now but it has another 5-7 years of potential aging. If enjoying now do decant at least and hour prior to serving. Pair with herb roasted pork tenderloin. Tasted March 2016.
The vines for this Pinot Noir are planted in clay and limestone soils in the heart of the Niagara Escarpment region of Jordan. They're pruned for low yields and more concentrated flavours in the grapes that still maintains elegance in the final wine. The Claystone vineyard is the coolest of all of the various Le Clos Jordanne vineyards and therefore the grapes are usually hand harvested last. - Community Wine Reviews
